Stanford Advanced Materials supplies high-quality alumina ceramics products, including alumina platealumina tubealumina crucible, etc. to meet our customers' R&D and production needs.

Among all the oxides that the melting point of which is more than 2000 , alumina  (Al2O3) is the most flexible and cheap material and alumina ceramics are the most widely used and the most productive ceramic materials in oxide ceramics.

Applications of alumina ceramics

Machinery industry

The bending strength of aluminum oxide porcelain sintering products can reach 250MPa and the hot-pressing products can reach 500MPa. The Mohs hardness of alumina ceramics can reach 9. Moreover, alumina ceramics also has excellent anti-wear performance, so it is widely used in manufacturing tools, ball valves, grinding wheels, ceramic nails, bearing and so on.

1. Pure alumina ceramic tools

The optimal cutting speed of alumina ceramic tool is higher than that of general hard alloy tool, which can greatly improve the cutting efficiency of different materials.

2. Composite alumina ceramic tools

Alumina-carbide the ceramic cutting tool is to add certain carbide in alumina to improve its strength, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and high-temperature performance. Because of the addition of metal, the connection strength between alumina and carbide and the service performance are improved.

3. Toughening alumina ceramic tools

Toughening alumina ceramic tool refers to adding toughening or strengthening material to alumina matrix. Currently, the commonly used toughening methods include zirconia (ZrO2) phase change toughening, whisker toughening and second phase particle dispersion toughening.

Electronics industry

There are all kinds of alumina ceramic substrate, ceramic film, transparent ceramics, and alumina ceramic electrical insulation porcelain pieces, electronic materials, magnetic materials, etc. in the electronic industry.

1. Alumina transparent ceramics

At present, transparent ceramics is an important frontier in the research and application of materials. As a new material, transparent ceramic has a series of advantages in addition to its wide range of transmittance, such as high heat conductivity and low electrical conductivity, high hardness, high strength, low dielectric constant and dielectric loss, good wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, etc.

2. Alumina ceramic substrate

Alumina ceramic the substrate has high mechanical strength, good insulation, and high light resistance, and is widely used in multi-layer wiring ceramic substrate, electronic packaging, and the high-density packaging substrate.

Chemical industry

Alumina ceramics are also widely used in chemical applications, such as alumina ceramic packing balls, inorganic microfiltration membranes and corrosion-resistant coatings.

Medical field

Alumina is more used to make artificial bones, joints, and teeth in medicine. Alumina ceramics have excellent biocompatibility, bioinertia, physicochemical stability, high hardness and abrasion resistance, which is an ideal material for preparing artificial bones and joints.

Other fields

Apart from the above several kinds of applications, alumina ceramics is also widely used in other high-tech fields, such as aerospace, high-temperature industrial furnace, composite strengthening, etc.

Stanford Advanced Materials supplies high-quality alumina ceramics products, including alumina platealumina tubealumina crucible, etc. to meet our customers' R&D and production needs. Please visit for more information.
