We have been having some issues with the electrospinning maching that hasn't allowed us to continue with our experiment. Although, we have been trying to test old electrospun fibers and come up with a way to get a good cross sectional measurement to know how thick the lay down of nanofibers must be in order to re-create our work with a production size machine.

I have learned to do a lot of troubleshooting and come up with different ways to find out was wrong with the electrospinning maching and also brainstorming ways to get a good thickness measurement of the nanofibers.

I have applied some team working skills and brainstorming skills to figure out the answers to our problems. All is part of the scientific research process.

April 30th Monthly Overview

The focus for April has been as follows:

A. Maintaining current responsibilities in payroll, postings, and analysis.

B. Minor improvements or tweaks have been made to the processes and reporting that Damaris is responsible for managing. We look forward to seeing positive results in the coming month as a result of these improvements.

C. Damaris participated in the successful go-live of our second upgrade of 2013. Additional troubleshooting will be required to adapt to our new system and get the new processes down.

Lastly, we have not had any issues with Damaris, she is an excellent addition to our team.

Thanks

Our product combined all diabetes technology into one small compact component. With such a great product the industry is to everyone who has diabetes, along with healthcare providers and insurance companies.

We have been doing microsphere tests, with different spin times to see which ones pass.

I have learned how to make the microsphere solution properly and how to test it to make sure we have the right amount of microspheres in our solution.

Some mathematics calculations have been used to make sure the microsphere solution is done properly which are basic math concepts learned at school. Also making spreadsheets with these calculations already in them in order to get appropiate and fast results.

This week we began to produce samples with nanofibers to be tested for their ability to filter targets of a specific size. This is an important goal for the project.

We learned how to prepare the solution and how to perform this test.

Having spent much time in a laboratory environment at SCSU, I feel comfortable performing this test.

This week we have been working on how to test our electrospun material and see how it can filter out target material.

We learned how to make a particular solution to filter target material and how to set up the experiment to test our electrospun material.

The scientific experiment process that I learned in school has helped me to know how to do the experimental set up.

This week we worked on a presentation regarding the progress that has been made on our electrospinning research. Representatives from CT innovations as well as other employees of KX technologies were in attendance.

We learned how to present information on research in a business setting.

At school we often have to make presentations in order to update others on projects and those skills were very applicable to this situation.

We have been working on making a presentation of what we have accomplish on our research up to this point to show a consultant of KX and other KX personel.

I learned how to manipulate charts and graphs in order to show the information in a clear and easy to understand way. Also on how to explain what we have been doing to technical and non-technical audiences.

At school, I've had to do many presentation of science and non-science materials, therefore, it was easy to do a power point presentation and speak in front of people.

February-25-march-3 (interns weekly)

This week I pretty much finished the entire header. There's multiple levels to it, as well as a content slider and changeable elements. I've also learned a lot about working with a json object. I've used them a little in the past, but nothing even close to this level, and i'm happy with how everythings turning out.

Another thing I've learned is that jQuery is a lot more capable than I thought. I'ts my favorite client side langauge, but I've never used it to do so much math and parsing of an object. It's definetly a fast library, and hasn't showed any noticeable impact on the sites performance.

This week I fixed a few styling issues on the Bridgeportworldwide website because the header was conflicting with some code that was already there. I also updated it so that it would resize better and look ok on most screens. Then I worked with Ed to figure out how to change the data structure of a Json file, so that it could be easily integrated into the new system.

This week I've been working on cleaning up the header for Index-d's new ERP system. I stripped out unecessary code and changed a few things to make it more portable and updateable. I've also coded a new Login page based off a design I recieved.

One major thing I've learned is the importance of a uniformed and scalable strucutre when programming for a large application. I've also learned that it's very important to have a clear picture of the overall goal when programming/designing, so that you don't end up re doing something multiple times.

During this week we have continued to electrospin different trials while changing parameters one at a time and then imaging the resulted fibers. We have then analyzed the images and created a test report in order to compare it with other test trials. Everytime our results seem to be getting us closer to our desired results. We have also began testing our electrospun fibers in a pore/flow rate test in order to compare these results with the image processing results and other test trials as well.

Through this process I have been able to use things I've learned like data analysis like calculating averages and making excel spreadsheets with the data and making different calculations with the data.

I learned to make histograms as a new way of interpreting the data acquired from images.

During this week we have been conducting more trials and electrospinning different polymer solutions.

Also we have been creating a template report in order to have accurate documentation for each of the electrospinning trials we have been doing. This will be crutial in order to have an accurate account of what happened in each trial and this way it will make it easier to make comparisons later on in order to be able to come up with accurate recomendations as to what is the best process to achieve the desired results.

Weekly Status Report 2/12/13

We have done several trial runs and learning about the different variables and how to manipulate those parameters in order to achieve the desired results.

We have tried different concentrations, tried different voltages, and tried different flow rates. We also tried different distances between the spinneret and the drum although we haven't dealt with that parameter as much.

Next is to continue trying different concentrations and different solution mixtures and image those to see what kind of nanofibers we get.

Progress is coming along as expected.
